Webinar : More Than A Web-Based Seminar

Webinar. The market defines this as a “web-based seminar”. I like to think of it as less of an event that is online and more of a virtual show.

I believe this is the first differentiator between the Streaming Network, which I launched almost a decade ago, and many of my colleagues, competitors and clients.

For years I worked as a Web Services Specialist at Enunciate, dealing with numerous organizations that wanted exactly this – a virtual event with the ability to create a format online that would speak to their clients and employees in a way that they could engage in. The problem I faced then was the services I could offer through a third part provider that we were working with. As the middleman, my job was to match the best cookie cutter package to the requirements of the client. The result was lost sale after lost sale.

The silver lining however, was the discovery of a huge opportunity to fill an obvious void in the market – providing the additional layer between the customer and the technology which essentially involves actually finding out what the objectives of the client are, who the target market is, and then creating a virtual show in the format that makes the most sense for delivery.

That entire premise became the platform for the Streaming Network, which I launched in 2006 and which in turn generated over 1 million in revenue in year one alone.

From there we have only looked ahead, creating innovative ways to continue to meet our clients requests and truly optimize their marketing spend.

So the big question here- why create a blog about this? Well the truth is that there is endless content on creating your own webinar available right now, whether it is online, print, event or actual webinars on webinars! What there is a lack of is content on actual results both successful and failed. That is our second differentiator. My goal through this blog is not to regurgitate 5 tips on creating your own webinar, or pitfalls to avoid when designing your own webinar or a webinar or recording your very own webinar! The question I pose to all of these publishers is who says?! My approach and the goal of the Streaming Network is to push the envelope, listen to the client and share successes and proven lessons with my readers on how to engage their targets in virtual events.

So, if you’re serious about your program, not getting what you want out of your current webinar program, or a marketer that is truly looking for real ROI then what I share with you via Better Webinars each week will help tackle all of these voids and more.

Send me your feedback, questions or topics for discussion anytime.
